Les Misérables: The Staged Concert

There really aren’t enough words to describe how amazing this show was!

I’d specifically booked to see John Owen-Jones’s last night and, my goodness, it was phenomenal. He is always sensational, but this performance was on another level. The characterisation, the emotion - everything was heightened, more detailed, more heart wrenching. ‘Valjean’s Soliloquy’ was absolutely breathtaking, and ‘Bring Him Home’ was simply incredible. It was pure magic to watch. I feel absolutely privileged to have seen this performance, but I fear that I have been spoilt for seeing Les Mis again because I don’t think that anyone else as Valjean could even come close to compare with Mr Owen-Jones on a normal day, let alone the performance he gave tonight.

Most audience members were there for Mr Owen-Jones’s final “scheduled” performance, and the atmosphere in the auditorium was electric.

And what was happening on stage was electrifying. I’ve seen this concert twice before and, wow, this time it was something else. The detail, the nuances, the emotion - it was all so clear and so raw, and it was simply extraordinary. Particular mention must be made of Michael Ball, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Earl Carpenter, Shan Ako, Matt Lucas and Katy Secombe. They were simply fabulous.

I am running out of ways to describe how fantastic this performance was. It was a truly remarkable evening, the best performance of Les Mis that I have ever seen, and one that I will never forget.
